What’s the difference between a Personal and a Premises Licence?
A.
A personal licence is granted to an individual, allowing that person to sell alcohol by retail or authorise alcohol sales from licensed premises. It will also allow the holder to become a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS).
A premises licence allows licensable activities, including the sale of alcohol by retail, late night refreshment and regulated entertainment to take place from a particular licensed premises. A personal licence holder must be nominated on to the premises licence if the premises is used for the sale of alcohol by retail. A personal licence is not required for other licensable activities.

Will a drink driving conviction stop me from getting my Personal Licence?
A.
A drink driving offence is a ‘relevant offence’ under the licensing Act 2003 and the chief of police will object to an application from any person with an unspent drink driving conviction. Drink driving convictions will stay on an individuals CRB record normally for 5 years form the date of the conviction in a court of law, this maybe longer if the individual spent any time in prison.

What licences do I need to open a new venue?

Under the licensing act of 2003 a premises may now apply for an alcohol and entertainments licence which may include the sale of hot food and drink. Under the new act for England and Wales these licenses are now combined. How do I get a personal Licence?
A.
To qualify for a licence to sell alcohol in England, Wales and Scotland you will require training and a qualification which is Government approved. This qualification in England and Wales is known as the National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH) level 2.
And in Scotland it is known as the Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) level 5. You can attend one of our one day instructor led courses, sitting the examination at the end of the day, on a successful pass you will receive a NCPLH or SCPLH certificate that will allow you to apply to your local Licensing authority or in Scotland your Licensing Board for your Personal Licence or if you prefer we can process your application for you.
